A Southern Wedding at Kiawah Island

by Della on February 1, 2012

When you join the two wedding powerhouses of W.E.D and Marni Rothschild together, you KNOW that the wedding will be one to write home about. But then, if you also select the stunning seaside venue at Kiawah, and add in a plethora of other uber talented wedding gurus,  you achieve wedding nirvana. This wedding is too stunning for mere words….I am simply enamored with this whimsically elegant affair by the shore. Not only is the bride off the charts gorgeous but she is also delightfully gracious.

From the Bride….

{The wedding was small (relatively speaking); we wanted our closest family and friends there. That was actually a large reason we had a “destination” wedding; had we gotten married in my hometown of Atlanta, there is no telling how quickly the guest list could have spiraled out of control. Having it at Kiawah, which had always been a dream of mine, ever since we started vacationing there when I was in high school, helped to ensure a more intimate event overall. Our ceremony had both traditional and non-traditional elements; it was more spiritual than religious; and it was the most intimate, beautiful time of my entire life. True to our hippie roots (Jamie’s a musician and I’m a flower child at heart), the wedding party walked down the aisle to Led Zeppelin’s “Over the Hills and Far Away,” followed by my father and I walking down to The Allman Brother’s “Sweet Melissa.” Although short, the ceremony was filled with emotion; we had one of our best friends do a Bob Dylan reading from one of his little-known classics, aptly named “The Wedding Song,” and when it came time to recite our vows, we said personal ones to each other, followed by the more traditional “Jamie,  do you take Jaci as your wife?  As your companion and best friend for life…” I worked with Ellen Robinson over at W.E.D. and the reception was fantastic (well, everything they did was fantastic, but the reception was just gorgeous). The decor was earthy and organic, yet sophisticated and chic, just as we had discussed. I really could not have imagined it any more perfect than it was.”
